The Southern Sports Academy’s Basketball Program provides development opportunities for talented young, basketball players in the Southern NSW region. This development program provides opportunities for talented young players in the areas of technical skill, education and personal development.

The Program will comprise of technical, athlete education, sports science and fitness elements for scholarship holders.

To be eligible for the Academy AFL Girls’ Program, athletes must be:

  • U14’s – U16’s in 2021;
  • Committed to progressing to higher representation within the sport of Basketball;
  • Currently residing within the SSA regional catchment.

An athlete levy will apply to athletes selected into the program and this will be advised at the time of selection.

  • Induction & Testing Day (19th December – Wagga Multipurpose Stadium);
  • Gym membership. Information to follow;
  • Your Local Clubs Academy Games U16’s – (Hunter Region – April 16th – 18th – Travel, 2 nights’
  • accommodation, in camp meals except 1 dinner and en route meals).  This will incur a $300 levy (prior to departure);
  • Inter Academy Challenge/Camp – Details TBC
  • Minimum 6 training camps;
  • Muscular Skeletal Screening and Athletic Development programming;
  • Professional development consultation sessions (Your Local Club Athlete Education Program);
  • Annual presentation evening – Date to be set, (sit down dinner – pending COVID 19 Restrictions);
  • Access to Academy’s compulsory uniform (purchased via online portal);
  • Preferred rate on consultation services provided by Active Physiotherapy;
  • Privileged pricing on Puma online store purchases.

Athletes who are invited into the 2021 program will incur an athlete levy of $300* which includes skills coaching, basketball, athlete education, leadership and induction camp, and athletic development programming (gym membership)

Athletes attending Your Local Clubs Academy Games will incur a $300 levy which covers all aspects of travel/accommodation/meals and games fees.

SSA apparel is ordered separately for first time athletes.

*Scholarships are not in the form of a monetary sum but enable the athlete to participate in Academy development programs at a greatly reduced rate.
