Southern Sports Academy is excited to offer the Indigenous Talent Identification program once again, with support from Underwriting Agencies Australia (UAA) and Riverina Water .

The fourth annual Talent ID Day was held on Tuesday, 1 July 2025. Details for the 2026 Talent ID Day will be announced at a later date, with the event planned for mid-2026.

What is Talent ID?

Talent ID is designed to identify people with specific skills, personal qualities and physical attributes that may lead that person to become a high performing athlete. It is much more than just assessing a persons physical capabilities, it includes the emotional side of performance, aspects like; desire, determination, resilience and so forth, these qualities can often be found in mainstream sport and teaching but a little harder to assess when participating in a talent ID day.

  • The program is open to both male and females 13 – 17 years of age in the calendar year of operation.
  • Be living or attending school in the SSA catchment area (please refer to the list below)
  • Endorsed by the school and/or sporting association with whom you are attending or representing

How the Talent ID day works

Participants will enjoy an introduction to multiple sports, where each student will play either games or participate in sport specific skills in a fun atmosphere to showcase their skills within each sport. Every student will participate in each of the sports on rotation throughout the session. All coaches are of the highest quality and well versed in talent identification.

Everyone who attends the day is guaranteed a fun time, every person will be introduced to multiple sports with the highest level of coaching available. At the end of the day the coaches will assess the participants and those identified will be provided invitations to attend SSA Sporting Program Trials as a Scholarship Athlete.
